Back to School 2024–25

Message to Parents, Guardians, and Students

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! The academic year will begin on Tuesday, September 3rd. Our school day will begin at 7:10 am for ALL GHS STUDENTS. Classes are dismissed at 2:33 pm. Here you can find our bell schedule.

Information for this school year will be communicated via Skyward, email, and our website. In order to conserve resources, you will not receive a mailing.

Remember: ALL families must complete the online verification process through Skyward Family Access. The tab to complete this process is located in your Skyward Family Portal. It is located on the left hand side and is labeled Online Verification. Please complete the online verification by clicking on the link. This process needs to be completed before your student will be able to view his/her schedule and locker information , when they become available, which is approximately one (1) week before the start of school.

For those without computer access or those who need assistance with the online verification process, help will be available on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Germantown High School. Report to the Commons/Cafeteria, using Door #1 (Main Entrance on the east side). After that date, if you have difficulty with online verification, please contact Student Services at Germantown High School, 262-502-7267.

GHS often recieves questions about “ supply lists .” GHS does not publish supply lists or have specific universal supply requirements. Students can expect that they will need a folder for each of their classes, a number of pens/pencils, notebooks or loose leaf paper. Math classes often recommend a graphing calculator such as the TI-84+, though some classes only require a scientific calculator. More information regarding specific supplies will come from individual teachers the first week of school.

PICTURE/ID DAY FOR GRADES 10-12

Picture Day for packet purchases, student IDs and the yearbook photo are Wednesday, September 3rd for grades 10-12. Pictures will be taken during English classes. All students must have a photo taken for their ID. For purposes of safety and security, students are required to have their student ID on their person while at school or at school sponsored activities. Students who are late to school have their IDs scanned in the Main Office before a pass is issued to class. Students will be using the barcodes on their IDs for hot lunch. Food Service staff will scan the ID to connect to the account. Freshmen who missed getting their ID taken on Freshman Picture & Locker Night may do so on Tuesday, September 3rd during lunch times.

Each student will be provided with a 2024-2025 Signature Verification sheet during Resource. This sheet is required for EVERY student and must be signed by a parent/guardian as well. Please complete this sheet and return it to the school office by Monday, September 9th.

REGISTRATION FEE

Your registration fee can be found in Skyward Family Access under Fee Management. The Germantown High School registration fee is $85. The fee covers book rental, general materials, consumable materials and supplies. Classes with additional material and/or supply needs have an added course fee to cover those materials. In addition, a technology fee of $45 will be charged to all students to support and maintain the 1:1 technology initiative approved by the Board of Education. Please pay all of your fees by September 3rd, 2024. Fees cannot be paid online until after the completion of summer school; they will be updated in the first week of August.

ACTIVITY FEE

Students involved in ANY sport and some activities will be responsible for an $85 fee per sport/activity. There is a $425 per family cap on these fees. Students will not be permitted to participate in co-curricular activities until both their registration fees and participation fee are paid. We recommend that students participate in at least one co-curricular activity each semester since involvement in co-curricular activities contributes to school and individual success. You can go to the Germantown HS Athletics & Activities website page to view available activities or go to the Germantown High School website and click on Athletics & Activities.

STUDENT SCHEDULES, EXAM EXEMPTIONS, BACK to SCHOOL NIGHT, ETC.

All students must earn 23 credits in order to graduate from Germantown High School. Staffing is determined in the Spring of the previous school year, based upon enrollment and course selection.

Therefore, no schedule changes will be considered, except for course conflicts, which are defined as having two classes scheduled for the same period. For additional information and questions, please contact Student Services at 262-502-7267.

Students have the opportunity to work for and obtain exam exemptions, based on exemplary attendance and discipline records, as well as academic accomplishment. Guidelines for exam exemptions are in the Student Handbook. Please know that this is a privileged based program and not a “right.”

The annual “GHS Back to School Night” is scheduled for Wednesday, September 18th from 6:00-9:00pm. “Back to School Night” allows parents/guardians to experience their child’s class schedule and to meet their teachers. Each teacher has the opportunity to explain their course curriculum, assessments and expectations. More details will be shared in advance of September 18th.

GHS Drop-off/Pick-up Information

The GHS front/visitor parking lot is set up for one-way traffic only. Parents are asked to keep advancing their vehicles toward the main entrance as space permits before stopping to drop off/pick up their students.

Parents coming from the west are encouraged to use the field house entrance to drop off/pick up students. Enter the area via Edison Drive to the west of the GHS campus. Drivers will find that navigating the field house parking lot is an easier process than using the building's front lots.

All drivers are reminded to keep out of bus lanes. Do not attempt to enter bus lanes while the buses are present. On a typical day at GHS, the buses leave the campus around 2:40 pm, and the lot is relatively clear by 2:45 pm.

Do not park or stop on River Lane. This includes making a left turn from northbound River Lane into the GHS driveway when traffic is backed up. Please wait until it is safe to turn left from northbound River Lane.

As always, please remember that the speed limit in our parking lots is 10 miles per hour. SRO Olson will be monitoring driver speed in the area.
