Systematic Approach to Exceptional Support

The Germantown School District (GSD) is committed to supporting the success of all students through a systematic approach called Response to Intervention (RTI) and specialized programs for advanced learners. RTI focuses on providing high-quality instruction and targeted support to meet the diverse academic and behavioral needs of students. By analyzing multiple data points, our staff identifies areas where students may need extra help and implements interventions to close learning gaps, ensuring every child is prepared for future success. For students with exceptional talents in academics, the arts, leadership, creativity, or intellectual pursuits, we offer personalized programs to help them reach their highest potential while developing essential skills for college, career, and life readiness. Germantown School District ensures every child is prepared to meet their potential and embark on a journey of lifelong success.

Key Program Features

  1. Identification Process

    • Students are identified for interventions based on:

      • Universal screening data (e.g., MAP scores, Aimsweb).

      • Classroom assessments and teacher observations.

      • Progress monitoring trends and other diagnostic tools.

  2. Three Tiers of Support

    • Tier I: Classroom differentiation

      • All students receive high-quality instruction, based on a standards-driven curriculum for all students.

      • Differentiated instruction and regular progress monitoring.

    • Tier II: Selective Intervention

      • Targeted small group instruction using evidence-based strategies.

      • Interventions include regular progress monitoring every two weeks.

    • Tier III: Intensive Intervention

      • Individualized instruction for students not progressing in Tier II.

      • Delivered in a 1:1 or 1:2 setting, with weekly progress monitoring.

Progress Monitoring

Progress monitoring evaluates students' performance to ensure the effectiveness of instruction and interventions. Data from Tier II and Tier III interventions are reviewed regularly to inform instructional decisions.
