Tony Gonzalez

Welcome to MacArthur!

Hello! My name is Mr. Tony Gonzalez. I have been the MacArthur Principal since July of 2021. Prior to MacArthur, I spent two years as the Principal of Catholic East Elementary and 12 years at Milwaukee College Prep (MCP), which included six years as an administrator, six years as an educator, and 14 years coaching girls' basketball.

Education has played a pivotal role in my life.  My educational journey started at Kagel Elementary (MPS) and then continued at Blessed Sacrament.  I graduated from Marquette University High School and went on to Marquette University, where I received a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education and social studies. I have my Master’s degree in administrative leadership, principal’s license, and director of curriculum and instruction license from Alverno College.

My wife, Danielle, and I live in Germantown. We are the parents of three healthy and vibrant children: Mia, Grace, and Cruz. Danielle teaches at Amy Belle Elementary, and we firmly believe in educational equality for all students.

Students are unique individuals who need a fun, safe, and loving environment where they can grow and mature.  Students need emotional, physical, and social stability; as a principal, I plan on providing that to students here at MacArthur.  I aspire to help all students reach their full potential academically, behaviorally, and socially.

Here at MacArthur, we strive to provide a nurturing environment where all students know they are loved.  In addition, it is always our goal to be a space where all students feel safe in who they are as learners and where scholars will strengthen their academics, character, and confidence.

History of MacArthur

First known as Germantown State Graded School, MacArthur was built in 1922 as a two-room schoolhouse. Eventually we were renamed Germantown Elementary School District #5, and in 1963 our school took its final name, MacArthur Elementary, after General Douglas MacArthur.

As enrollment grew, the original building had additions in 1956, 1962, & 1984 and the original two-room schoolhouse was demolished in 1991. In 2018, a large expansion included a new library, cafetorium, and 4th- & 5th-grade wing. In its current form, our school can accommodate approximately 600 students and is set on a nearly eight-acre site near the corner of Pilgrim Road and Fond Du Lac Avenue.
