Title Services
Title I is a federal program that provides funds to school districts and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children who are disadvantaged to support a variety of services. Its overall purpose is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and assessments. The grant contains provisions for ensuring that children who are disadvantaged enrolled in private schools also benefit from the academic enrichment services funded with Title I, Part A funds.

Schoolwide Programs
MacArthur Elementary
According to DPI, “Schoolwide programs serve all children in a school. All staff, resources, and classes are part of the overall Schoolwide program. The purpose is to generate high levels of academic achievement in core subject areas for all students, especially those students most in need.”
Targeted-Assistance Programs
Kennedy Middle School
“A Targeted Assistance program is one in which individual students are targeted to receive Title I services. Students are identified based on multiple, objective, educationally related criteria. Services may be delivered in a number of ways: in-class instruction; pull-out instruction; and/or extended day, week, or year instruction. Title I teachers are responsible for providing extra services to identified children; coordinating with other school personnel involved with the children; and involving parents in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Title I program.”

Your Rights
There are laws requiring we share information with you regarding the schooling experience for your child. However, below is a list of questions that may help you better communicate with school personnel about your child:
• What are my child’s strengths in the classroom and where does he/she struggle?
• What is the best way to communicate with my child’s teacher? Email? Phone? In-person?
• Is my child’s teacher licensed to teach the grades or subjects assigned? What are the other qualifications of the teacher?
• Are there instructional aides working with my child? If so, what are their qualifications?
• What strategies will be used to help my child?
• How can I support my child at home?
The district will invite you to an annual meeting every fall and an annual review meeting every spring. However, you have the right to request opportunities for regular meetings to offer suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions that will impact the education of your child.
Ways to Support Your Child
• Read with your child
• Check homework for completion
• Check bags, folders, and email for notes and other important papers

• Praise your child—and never underestimate the power of a hug!
SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT
